Beyond the Court: Why These Books Matter to the Industry | Juan Garcia Tennis

From Court to Manuscript: Why I Chose to Write

I’ve challenged myself physically for most of my life.

Jumping out of planes in the middle of the night.

Running miles without stopping.

Grinding through workouts that left my body broken for weeks.

But writing these books has been the most intellectually demanding thing I’ve ever done.

For years, I believed leadership in racquet sports was something we talked about at conferences, maybe shared in locker rooms, but rarely documented in a way that could guide the next generation.

So I decided to document it.

Not to add noise to the industry, but to add clarity.

These books are not about forehands and backhands.

They’re about identity. Culture. Leadership. Professional growth.

They’re about the evolution of the modern tennis coach.

Why I Wrote Them

Because I’ve watched:

Talented coaches burn out.

Strong programs lose direction.

Clubs struggle not because of poor instruction, but because of missing leadership.

I’ve also watched the opposite.

Average facilities become exceptional because of culture.

Coaches grow when someone invests in them.

Professionals elevate when they commit to education.

These books are for the coach who wants more than just lessons on court.

They’re for the professional who wants to influence environments.

Who These Books Are For

They’re for:

• Teaching pros who want to lead

• Directors building culture

• Coaches navigating burnout

• Professionals pursuing Master status

• Anyone serious about elevating standards in our industry

If you’re comfortable where you are, these books may not be for you.

If you want to grow beyond comfort, they are.

The Bigger Mission

Writing forced me to slow down and think.

To examine what I believe about:

Leadership

Education

Standards

Long-term development

It clarified my philosophy in a way that years on court never did.

And that process alone made it worth it.

What’s Next

This isn’t the end of something. It’s the beginning of a deeper conversation.

Through this blog, workshops, speaking engagements, and continued education, I want to keep pushing our profession forward.

Because tennis doesn’t evolve on its own.

It evolves when coaches evolve.
